Industry & innovation supervision
As Academic Supervisor on University of Staffordshire innovation accelerator programmes, selected and mentored MSc students placed as Innovation Consultants in industry, guiding each project from requirements through to technical delivery. All four projects below were successfully delivered, with two progressing towards Knowledge Transfer Partnership funding applications and another contributing to an EIC Pathfinder 2025 proposal.
-
Academic Supervisor — Langley Alloys
Advanced and Digital Technologies Innovation Accelerator · Aug 2025 – Mar 2026
Challenge: Langley Alloys, a specialist manufacturer of corrosion-resistant alloys, relied entirely on a manual, paper-based despatch workflow that slowed shipments and created compliance risk.
Contribution: Led stakeholder discussions to scope the digital transformation, then mentored an embedded MSc student through the technical execution — from BPMN process modelling to a secure, authenticated web platform.
Impact: Cut daily documentation and processing time from two hours to twenty minutes. The result led Langley Alloys to begin preparing a Knowledge Transfer Partnership for the next phase of the work.
-
Academic Supervisor — AR International Holdings
Go Digital Accelerator · Jun 2025 – Jul 2025
Challenge: AR International Holdings, a healthcare and dermatology group, needed to modernise its digital infrastructure, scale e-commerce, and bring escalating cloud overhead under control.
Contribution: Ran scoping sessions with company stakeholders and provided technical direction on architecture, cloud optimisation, and integration strategy for the assigned MSc student.
Impact: Delivered a 70% reduction in cloud infrastructure costs alongside a Shopify-based e-commerce launch. The outcome led to preparation of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership to extend the collaboration.
-
Academic Supervisor — Advanced Packaging Limited
Advanced and Digital Technologies Innovation Accelerator · Jul 2024 – Nov 2024
Challenge: Advanced Packaging Ltd, a bespoke packaging manufacturer, needed to handle complex, highly customised customer inquiries at scale without overwhelming its sales team.
Contribution: Defined the problem space with the company's team and guided the MSc student through applied research, design, and development.
Impact: An NLP-powered conversational agent, packaged as a custom WordPress plugin, provided 24/7 customer engagement and streamlined the company's lead pipeline.
-
Academic Supervisor — FPLNet, Fibre Partner Limited
Advanced and Digital Technologies Innovation Accelerator · May 2024 – Aug 2024
Challenge: FPLNet, a workforce management platform coordinating fibre optic installation teams, needed a robust system architecture and strict security framework for sensitive field data.
Contribution: Met with company leadership to define security and operational requirements, then supervised the MSc student through system design and security implementation.
Impact: Hardened the platform's multi-tenant security and role-based access control; the work culminated in a co-authored academic publication.
